HeadlineFear reduced Opposition vote to 26%

The result of the bye-election held on 19th July shows that the opposition vote has been considerably reduced to 26% compared to over 50% in the general election held one year ago when DP joined with the SNP to put forward the single candidature of Jean-François Ferrari under the SNP symbol in an electoral alliance.  This time the contest was between the DP and SNP, while the ruling party engineered a boycott of the poll supported by the state broadcasting media and the electoral commissioner.
Despite the low turn out, the incumbent Jean-François Ferrari of the SNP captured 87% of the total votes cast against DP’s Frank Elizabeth who polled 13%. ….more >
