Our beloved Seychelles is currently going through a rough time economically and this is affecting our small nation in more ways than one. Hard drugs are the cause of vanishing dreams for our youths within a short period of time having gone on drugs. Instead of a positive mind-set our youths are moving towards what we never dreamt of happening in our Country and it seems that the SPPF Government is happy with the situation despite the declaration of war on drugs.
There are only two ways by which drugs can enter our country. It’s only by sea or by air, yet we are very far from stopping this lucrative business for those peddling in this evil trade. Some powerful individuals are enriching themselves over the health and future of our youths. It is being proven that these drugs are more powerful than all types of educational advert that the different organs concern with the drug epidemic are trying to use to deter our population from using illicit drugs. We believe firmly that the SPPF government is dealing only with the syndrome instead of dealing with the problem itself. Seychelles needs a police force that is proficient to help deal with those who is depriving our children their youth and from being killed silently by this evil trade. Our police force is corrupt, weak and ineffective - lately they are just framing individuals by planting drugs to create a semblance of succeeding against drug trafficking, because of the pressure coming from State House. Framing ordinary citizen will never ease off this dilemma; on the contrary it will only allow the notorious masters to keep on importing this commodity.
Lately a number of people have been arrested and are being prosecuted for drugs trafficking. Most of them have been frame by police officers who has been instructed by their masters or are after kick-backs. It is the same drugs that are being placed day in day out on Tom, Dick and Harry so that the government and the police force can proudly say that they are getting results and winning the war on drugs.....
Setting up somebody is against the Constitution and this tactics being used by Commissioner Waye-Hive’s men should stop once and for all. They should be more professional in performing their duties instead of using short cut strategies.
If the government in power strongly believes that they can do something or if they want to do something so that Seychelles can be drugs free, they need to tackle it from top to bottom not vice versa. The talk of the town nowadays is that some government officials or people well connected are the ones importing that stuff and it seems that those individuals are above the law. How long is President Michel willing to allow our country to be destroyed by people close to him? Promises have been made about eliminating drugs in our country and getting these Escobar behind bars. There are more victims of drugs behind bars than there are real dealers, how long will Michel take to appreciate this fact is anyone’s guess.
Over the past few weeks the police force has been arresting large numbers of people in connection with drug offences. They go into districts and sub-districts arrest everyone in sight or anyone thought to be doing drugs without any solid evidence throw them inside a police van – Is this really the solution to our drugs problem Mr. President?
