“NOU POU DEAL EK ZOT”
Marie-Louise Potter stated recently in the Assembly at the top of her whiny voice that the new law being proposed by the Vice-President to extend the sentences of drug users and traffickers are fantastic and that “NOU POU DEAL EK ZOT”. The irony is that for 30 plus years, SPPF has been in power and it is under the same SPPF Government watch that the sale and use of hard drugs have proliferated. All of a sudden, she puts her foot in her mouth wanting us to believe that all of a sudden, things will change overnight because the SPPF members have raised their hands in this farce of an assembly to vote on a useless piece of legislation. Thanks God the SNP members had enough sense to abstain. It is SPPF who has brought drugs into the country and selling them and killing our kids. Now she wants to put the victims in jail for longer (at taxpayers cost) instead of getting the Police Department to do their jobs and arrest the famous “Escobar(s)” that seem to evade James Michel, SPPF’s NDEA, Sniffing Dogs, Customs and Port Authorities, and all other Departments currently UNDER the SPPF Government. Marie-Louise, be careful who you put in jail next. Do remember that a lot of druggies are SPPF kids who have come from the poverty and ghettos that you have given them on a platter, as well as apartment blocks and housing estates created by SPPF to win votes. As they the poor kids go to jail the children of those in power are protected because of who they are shame on you SPPF! When all those kids from poor families are in jail, who will attend your free beer (and drug) parties in 2011? The dozen or so Escobar(s) will not make up the numbers!
Our heartfelt congratulations to Belombre MNA Nicolas Prea for suggesting on the SBC-TV show recently that we should consider sending drug users to an outer island to be rehabilitated (Dealers and Escobar(s) would still go to Montagne Posee prison where they deserve to be). His idea of getting these young people to work on an island and returning to Mahe one day as drug-free citizens with some money in their pocket and a sense of dignity is something that the Ministry of Health should strongly consider. They can expect our full backing on that one. After all, Glenny Savy of IDC has done nothing to our islands for over 20 years. He has been selling the islands to foreigners and operates illegal hotels instead of producing goods, coconuts and fish like we used to have in the olden days. Eric Clapton the great musician has set up one of the world’s leading drug rehabilitating centers called “Crossroads” on the island of Antigua. Why can’t we do the same on Platte Island which is less than 100 miles away, or even Coetivy where there is already an infrastructure and where Mr. Potter’s parents used to work hard in the old days? Imagine working hard, diving, fishing, enjoying the ocean and the beach, regaining one’s sense of pride and getting paid for 3, 6 or 12 months far away from the temptation of drugs? Mrs. Potter (not to be confused with the smarter Harry Potter), don’t you think that this is a much better idea than “nou pou deal ek sot”! It is a positive solution to a problem with the potential to destabilize the country if we fail to manage it properly.
