Feeding the nation?

The Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB) as we have all been informed, time and time again, was set up to feed the nation by maintaining a constant, supply of essential commodities at a stable and reasonable price. Nice sentiments indeed, but how about a reality check?

Last week we saw a long list of “essential products” missing from the shelves such as beef, potatoes, tomatoes, salt, milk, vegetables (with the exception of a few, unfit for human consumption) and fruits (a few green bananas of poor quality) that have been on the shelf for several weeks now but no sane shopper will touch them so they remain just there taking up space only to be binned later on. ... read more ...

Michel needs the presidency of his own party

Despite an extensive exercise last year aimed at meeting the people. More evidence is emerging proving that President Michel is being kept in the dark and does not really know what is happening in the country, this is a big concern to us all. The head of State is expected to be aware of what is going on in the country otherwise how can he manage the affairs of the people? ... read more ...

Letters to the Editor

Sir,

The SPPF is certainly not respecting certain natural rules of decency when it comes to maintaining political power – staring defeat in the face they are making use of unconventional tactics even if it means dividing the country further. “United we will move mountains”, the President professed recently, however, the actions and utterances of his political machinery are contrary to achieving this noble objective. ... read more ..

How much privileges for one man ?

This is the question a lot of people have been asking, after information came to light through opposition newspapers revealing the extent at which well connected people and the family of the powerful few have stockpiled fortunes beyond their wildest dreams, whilst a good proportion of the citizens are lamenting in absolute poverty and a greater proportion is living from hand to mouth. ... read more ...

RALPH VOLCERE’S WEEK

People up and down the country are concerned, in fact very concerned about the latest behaviour of President Michel. Lately the President has been acting out of character. He is doing things which previously despite having been in politics for the last forty years he never did. This is indeed strange coming from a man who wants to be trusted with our votes for the forthcoming presidential election. Some people are saying it is a clear sign of political fatigue. ... read more ...

James Michel 29 years later

The propaganda strategy adopted by President James A. Michel to get himself elected President and to give the SPPF another 5 years of power after being in office for nearly 29 years is an affront to human intelligence and a reflection of the utter failure of SPPF under Rene’s rule.  It is not being forgotten that Michel was a vital part of Rene’s system all throughout that period...read more ...
