RALPH VOLCERE’S WEEK
STRANGE BEHAVIOUR COMING FROM A PRESIDENT
People up and down the country are concerned, in fact very concerned about the latest behaviour of President Michel. Lately the President has been acting out of character. He is doing things which previously despite having been in politics for the last forty years he never did. This is indeed strange coming from a man who wants to be trusted with our votes for the forthcoming presidential election. Some people are saying it is a clear sign of political fatigue.
Last week Tuesday the President invited three of the country’s top athletes at State House to congratulate them on their recent achievements. When he was informed by the athletes of the non-availability of basic equipments such as chalk for weight lifters, the President went into the now usual forgetful mode, forgetting that as the Minister for Finance he has failed over the years to put at the disposition of athletes the resources that is required for them to perform better and progress further internationally in their respective sports. “Mon pa ti konnen”, which translate into “I was not aware”, was the President’s excuse. It shows a serious lack of communication between him and his ‘Sports Minister’, if the excuse is to be accepted, otherwise it demonstrate a serious lapse in his memory.
President Michel has been spotted more than once walking around town shaking hands with strangers, to people he did not want to know previously, walking into banks and walking back out without conducting any transaction. People going about their business in the banks got scared because some guys with guns under their shirts walked in with him. They thought another raid on a financial institution was about to take place.
Last Saturday Michel was in Victoria Market; usually people go to the market early Saturday morning to buy fresh produce for the weekend cooking. Mr. Michel walked pass the stalls and bought nothing, not even a “sousout maron”. Apparently the people selling their produce were not amused; the commotion his presence caused, which lasted long after he had departed lost the vendors valuable sales.
People everywhere are calling for a count of the marbles to check if it is all there. The brainiest and most certainly the favourite J in Victoria Mr. Gouni is seeking a court order to restrain the gentleman from encroaching on his patch. He (Gouni) is unlikely to succeed, unlike big J no one at the court house owes him any favour.
