ELECTION RESULTS COMING IN

All polling stations closed at 6 pm. It appears voters turned out to vote early. By mid afternoon there was only a trickle. According to SNP sources  in two polling stations – Beau Vallon and Mont Fleuri around 800 voters did not vote. They say most of them were SPPF voters. All the opposition voters were checked as having voted.  If this trend is repeated in the rest of the 23 districts it would suggest a major abstention by SPPF voters raising the fear that the Michel had not been able to win the trust of Rene voters. Rene’s majority in the last presidential election in 2001 was approximately 2500 votes. If true this news is catastrophic for Michel.

Ramkalawan wins St Louis, outpolling Michel by more than 100 votes than in 2001 when he beat Rene. Ramkalawan wins Les Mamelles, Bel Air, B.Vallon and Mt. Buxton. Michel wins Baie Lazare & G.Anse Praslin.

Final results - official

James Michel                -           30119               53.73%

Wavel Ramkalawan        -          25626               45.71%

Philip Boule                   -               314               00.56%

In 1998 the SPPF presidential candidate got 66% of the votes. In 2001 he got 54%. What do these figures indicate? Is the “Michel factor” going to reverse that trend? Therefore no matter what the SPPF does, this is the year when it will be defeated. This realization explains a number of hitherto inexplicable features of the SPPF presidential campaign. read more
