After the costly CIP lounge for use by first and Pearl class passengers prior to embarkation, the Civil Aviation Authority is to build two new VIP lounges.
The CIP lounge cost a staggering $ 1 million and is used by a few passengers only since check in time for top class travellers is only an hour before departure. This means that after going through duty free, there is barely an hour to bask in the bliss and comfort of an expensive room. There are internet facilities and one can be served alcohol while relaxing in sofas.
Apparently, airlines have been told they will have to fork out 28 euros per passenger using the CIP lounge, to recoup part of the costs. Most of the carpeting and decorations are clearly Asian and not in line with Creole culture. The CIP lounge, which is upstairs, from the main departure hall, was used to host the female pilots recently after their inaugural flight.
We wonder how much the VIP lounge will cost.
Though the terminal has been extended, the arrival lounge has remained pretty much the same size. There are now two baggage conveyors. Though this serves a useful purpose when there are two flights arriving at the same time, it contributes to chaos, with people running their luggage or trolleys over each other’s toes.
It is time the civil aviation authority gets its priority right.
