Two AGED communists reminiscing
If you were looking for former President Albert Rene in the last month or so, you wouldn’t know where to find him. His motorcade had not been seen arriving at the bomb proof lock up parking garage at the newly fortified Maison du Peuple for quite awhile.
Rumours had been flying around that he had gone to his mango ranch in Queensland, Australia for a month’s holiday with wife, kids and body guards but that he couldn’t fly back on the appointed date because of a sudden onset of illness. Upon his return, the rumours continued, he needed special massage to clear unwanted phlegm from his lungs on a daily basis. Now the latest rumour is that he has difficulty walking unaided after a fall which resulted in a “broken” or injured leg.
If you, as a concerned citizen, whether you love him or hate him, couldn’t find your former president if you were looking for him, - it was not a problem for a wily old retired communist leader from our sister island of La Reunion. He, the wily old ex-communist leader from La Reunion, searched and found him, our ex-president, sufficiently agile for both to be photographed standing and shaking hands and reminiscing of old times. And for posterity, the SPPF party rag, The People, were on hand to snap a photo which appeared on its front page for posterity.
This week we heard to from another wily old communist president – Fidel Castro, whose people had not heard and seen in a long time and do not know where to find him and what his illness is. This one is actually the president of the day and his illness is a state secret. It took a budding new communist and admirer from Venezuela who flew in especially on an executive jet financed by petrodollars from Uncle Sam to ferret him out so that his people could have the privilege of only to hear but not see him speak for a few minutes.
