Marie-Antoinette Rose, the erstwhile editor of The People, has been booted out of the door at the people. This come after Nichola Prea won his libel case against the newspaper and was awarded R.70, 000 damages by the Supreme Court. “The People” has accused Mr. Prea of being a thief and that he had allegedly stolen some ducks. Mr. Prea was able to prove in court that the allegation was indeed not true and it was but a lame attempt at character assassination, a skill which The People is quite adept at employing to destroy members of the opposition. Under the editorship of Marie Antoinette Rose The People newspaper was arguably the most sued paper with several lawsuits still pending.
Mr. Ralph Agrippine has been re-appointed to head the paper after himself getting the boot a few years ago. Joanna Pierre, who also harboured her own secret ambition to one day succeed Rose and head the much coveted paper, had her hopes dashed when the announcement was made recently. Rose, who was beginning to crack under pressure, is allegedly not seeing eye-to-eye with Marie Louise Potter, the new heavy weight of the party. The SPPF hierarchy decided to make the decision hastily in order to avoid any future embarrassment to the party.
Surprisingly the paper did not come out last week as everybody was given a week’s off to cool down. This, despite the obvious rift between the two opposition parties and in the face of a golden opportunity presented to the SPPF to extract political mileage out of an already volatile political situation. It remains to be seen whether Rose will be able to make a come back as editor of the paper again or will she ride away into the sunset never to return again.
