Dear Mr. Editor
The recent political developments in this country have indeed confused the populace as a whole.
Only three weeks ago, Wavel Ramkalawan, the leader of the SNP mentioned that “we gain more by sticking to our principles”! Where indeed are the man’s principles??
This is the same man who said that he will never meet with the SPPF leader not so long ago. When Mr. Mancham was speaking of a policy of putting Seychelles First and National Reconciliation since 1993, Wavel attacked this much respected man of peace.
He even hinted of Mr. Mancham accepting favours from Mr. Rene, the former president.
On the issue that we need a new style of politics in Seychelles, I do wholesomely agree, but can Wavel do it! Only time will tell! What about the wasted 10-15 years of “pa les tombe”!! His hardcore supporters are the same ones who have been constantly victimized because of his brand of politics and now, all of a sudden he is reconciling with the SPPF!
Wavel was even against the appointment of Mr. Frank Elizabeth as the proportionally nominated member of the Democratic Party in the National. His reason was that “Mr. Elizabeth did not take part in the General Elections”! What has he done now?
He has selected Mr. Jose Henri to replace Mr. Elizabeth. Did Mr. Henri take part in the last elections?? What about Jane Carpin, Jean-Claude Michel etc!!
I will let the people decide! Yes, the style of SNP leadership politics has not helped Seychelles in anyway whatsoever! The economy is a mess, the police is on the rampage, Montagne Posee is full of youth on drug-related or robbery-related offences, the cost of living is higher than ever, the civil service is a mess, devaluation is rampant, the price of petrol has doubled, poverty is widespread, unemployment figures are sky high, scarcity of essential goods on shop shelves is a daily occurrence. Why is there no pronouncement on these issues?
If we had adopted the Seychelles First principle as promoted by the DP since 1993, the Seychelles nation will never have been in the mess that we are in today!! To add insult to injury, now the two gangs responsible for a divisive style of politics jumps into the same bed, will it achieve positive results for Seychelles? We will have to wait and see…
Thanking you
Joachim Dupres
SNP/DP Candidate Anse Boileau 2007
Sir, allow me a few words in your paper.
First I must congratulate the Editor and his team who put out a first real paper in Seychelles. I find the Weekly to be quite interesting especially since it does not miss a beat on the current events of the week in our Country.
I would like to voice my support for the break up of the Alliance announced by Mr. Ramkalawan. He has done the Opposition a major service in showing what type of person he really is. For this decision, you must be grateful.
Secondly, I would like to congratulate Mr. Ramkalawan for moving towards a closer relationship with SPPF while our Country goes through Devaluation of our currency and our People face some hardship. This is something I have encouraged for years, when Mr. Ramkalawan worked with me. He is finally seeing the wisdom. I am thankful for this.
Sincerely,
Mr. O. K. Berlouis
