The leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Paul Chow, has sent congratulatory messages to the leader of the British Conservative Party and the new Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, on the overwhelming victory the party and Mr Johnson made in recent local and Greater London Authority (GLA), Progress House has revealed.
In his message Chow also thanked the Conservative Party for the invitation for three party officials to spend one week with Conservative Party canvassers on the campaign trail. Chow said the cooperation is valuable as it gives us new ideas on election campaigning.
The three, DP's General Secretary Georges Bibi, DP's Anse Boileau's candidate designate Jachim Dupres, and DP's Women for Democracy organiser Marie-Alise Mathiot, spent a week leading up to the election on May 1, working with Conservative Party activists on the campaign trail in the Midlands Borough of Redditch. Ms Mathiot, who is familiar with election campaigning for the DP told LNSW that their week was intense with their days starting early in the morning and ending late at night. She said that she gained valuable insights into campaigning which she will put to good use for the DP at the next election.
Chow said that DP's association with the British Conservative Party stems from the common ideology of the two parties. Both are members of the centre and centre-right association of parties called the International Democrat Union.
