A HOPE FOR BETTER HEALTH SERVICES

THE Health services for a while now have been one of the favorite topics of the National Assembly. In spite of the various explanations from the different Ministers given the Health Portfolio over the years, there has been little to no improvement in the kind of services given in the last four years, since President Michel's promise to sort out the Health Service.

A good look at the services given in the district clinics will give you an indication of how frustrated patients are when they have to wait for more than is necessary to be attended to.

There are a few who turn up after having consumed one too many bottle of their favorite tipple and don't want to go to work the next day. But there are those who are genuine and really need assistance and they are treated as nuisance too. They will be glad to know whether the Minister is aware of the kind of services they are receiving and that various measures are being looked at. Then again let us hope it is not only needless talk, as has been the case over the years.

It was good news recently hearing from the person responsible for the Health Authority that in future doctors will be allowed to upgrade themselves on short overseas courses or exchanges. Maybe that will help in reducing the number of Seychellois doctors leaving the country for greener pastures. It will also benefit every Seychellois who will be treated by doctors who will be familiar with the latest international development.

The arrival of Marise Berlouis seems a breath of fresh air - so let us hope that the Minister of Health is genuine and not giving false hope like so many have done before her.
