SNP rallying at Freedom Square and SPPF June 5th celebration

THE pictures above clearly illustrate the beginning of the political decline of the two major political parties in Seychelles, SNP and SPPF. The rally at Freedom Square to decry the rising cost of living in Seychelles by SNP was a total failure as it was only able to lure a handful of rabble-rousers. The SPPF did not fare any better when they called on their supporters to come down in large numbers to celebrate their annual 5th June celebration.

The apathy shown by the people of Seychelles in not turning up in large numbers at the two events, shows a general lack of interest in our politicians as well as disillusionment with the two major political parties for not fulfilling the aspirations of the people. The spiralling cost of living, devaluation of the rupee, rising cost of fuel due to exorbitant taxes imposed by the SPPF government on this commodity and the failure of SNP to put pressure on government to reverse this worrying trend, has led most people here to resign to their fate. The reality is, people are fed up with greedy politicians intent of filling their pockets whilst using the support of the masses to keep them in their privileged position where they continue to plunder and live in abundance whilst the masses struggle to make ends meet.

The third picture shockingly shows Pointe Larue School without a single louvre blade or window whilst our children continue to be schooled in the building. It is a shame that the newly built school is in such dire strait. This points to a clear lack of adequate security at the school and the state of our country under SPPF. If people feel compelled to go and do their shopping at the very schools which are supposed to provide our children with a proper education, then there is something seriously wrong with our society. What is worse about the whole situation is the fact that the Ministry of Education is not doing anything at all to remedy this situation. Teachers and pupils continue to attend school and sit in these classrooms as if there is nothing wrong. Unless drastic action is taken immediately to repair the school and put proper windows and louvre blades, the school will continue to remain a target for thieves, vandalism and rogues.

Let us hope that the other schools do not suffer the same fate.
