TAXI DRIVERS FORCED OUT BECAUSE THEY UPSET A MINISTER

View of Liberty House in Victoria. No more parking for taxis

Regar Publication published an article in their first issue for 2008, Vol. 17 No. 01, January 11th  , stating that the Land Transport Division, in their efforts at improving traffic flow in Victoria, have had to move taxi operators from Independence Avenue adjacent to Liberty House to a new location near the LUNGOS building in the Stadium Car Park.

Everyone with knowledge of this stretch of road in Victoria knows that there has never been a traffic congestion problem there.

The real reason behind the move is because the taxi operators have apparently upset a certain minister by talking politics a notch too loud. The taxi operators who have been parking there for the last thirty odd years have been harshly and unfairly dealt with. They did not get any warning or notice of when the road was going to be painted over. One bright morning they turned up for work and the spaces reserve for them were gone. It goes to show that the political leaders in government have no consideration whatsoever for anyone’s livelihood.
