STATE HOUSE SECURITY UNIT AT IT AGAIN!
These people just cannot stay out of trouble, now they want to kill popular Regar journalist Davidson Barra. Barra is known to have asked pertinent questions to President James Alix Michel during the ‘meet with the people’ exercise the President conducted after assuming the presidency in 2004. The President did not like the line of questioning from Barra and he showed his irritation in the way he reacted, “who are you? I don’t think I know you,” he remonstrated. Ever since this famous incident at Anse Etoile, Barra has consistently been the target of harassment. They follow him around whenever they spot him in Victoria, especially at night. Barra is not just any journalist; he is a card carrying member of the SNP, the main opposition party at the last election. Barra was the voice behind the alliance PPB (party political broadcast) on TV and radio for the last presidential and national assembly elections. He presented all the candidates for the SNP/DP alliance for the last election. Barra is well known for his opposition to this government. The State House Security Unit does not take too kindly to journalists considered not to be SPPF-friendly. The Editor of Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly is a constant target. Last year, 2007, Volcere was attacked at Anse Aux Pins by well known SHSU officer Clifford Cupidon, a complaint was made to the police in the district, but nothing further was done by the police. Cupidon is also known to have attacked an elderly lady at Anse Aux Pins; still he managed to evade justice. All the indications are that the State House Security Unit is a law onto itself beyond the reach of Commissioner Gerard Waye-Hive.
