Anglican Bishop to be consecrated

The consecration ceremony of the newly elected Anglican Bishop of Seychelles will take place on Sunday April 19th 2009, at St Paul’s Cathedral, Victoria, church officials have confirmed.

Anglican Bishop Richard SongThe Venerable James Wong Yin Song was elected last month to replace the previous Bishop Santosh Marray who left the post late last year.

James Wong was born in 1960. He is a native of the island of Rodrigues. He was ordained priest in 1983 by Bishop French Chang-Him and served in three parishes in the Diocese of Mauritius, namely St James in Port Louis, the North in Pamplemousses and St Thomas in Beau Bassin. This year he celebrated 25 years of service in the ordained ministry. He is currently the arch-deacon of the Anglican Diocese of Mauritius and helps in the management of St Andrew’s College and the Diocesan Training Centre. He is also the Chairperson of the Vocations Committee.

On the ecumenical level, Venerable James Wong is the General Secretary of the Fellowship of Christian Churches of Mauritius and Chairman of Scripture Union Mauritius. He has represented the Anglican Church in numerous international conferences and evangelistic crusades. He formed part of the ‘Grow the church’ mission team of ‘Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA) to South Africa in September 2008.

Bishop-elect Wong is married to Doreen and has a daughter and a son.
