The Dream Is Delayed and Not Listed
Boeing the aircraft building company based in Seattle Washington has announced a second delay in the delivery of the Dreamliner 787 to its customers. The first delay came about 3 months ago and no one paid much attention to it. The second delay is quite alarming because Boeing is uncertain that there may be additional delays. As delays take effect, airline companies all over the World will have to look for alternative means to make up for the loss. This will include seeking short term leasing arrangements with chartered flight companies or even abandoning routes if they cannot get the planes they need. Older planes will not be very reliable or fuel efficient. Newer ones will be costly and in demand in spite of the cost.
According to experts in the field, we will not know how much more delay will hammer back the delivery of the Dreamliner until the end of the First Quarter of 2008. This means by April 2008, we will have a better picture where our dream for a leased Dreamiliner will be. In the meantime, it is safe to say, it will not be delivered on time for the next Presidential Elections, so we will just keep on seeing those computer generated advertisements to make us believe the dream is still alive and on the way.
By co- incidence, the Delivery List of 787 Dreamliner does not include Air Seychelles in it from 2008 - 2010. In fact we are not 30th or 40th on the List. We do not appear any where under the List, unless of course, ILFC order of 10 planes, which will come in the later part of 2010 if there are no more delays includes Air Seychelles’ leased planes. If there are more delays, Air Seychelles will be notched down for late 2011 or 2012 delivery, likely well after the next Election. Food for thought for SPPF.
Well, better go buy some used Twin Otters and paint them fast SPPF. But don’t forget to buy some silicone as well to seal the plane and keep water from getting in. If you did not know, water seepage is a major cause of electronics failure in airplanes which results in planes crashing and people dying.
By the way, while we are on the subject, can Air Seychelles get a conveyor belt system for the inter island section. Take pity for those poor young men giving the best of their years to 30 kilo Samsonites. In the age of scarce Human Resource, the least you could do is getting them a conveyor belt system to place bags on these planes. Mechanize the baggage handling. It’s a World trend, don’t get left behind. Think Big!
