The All-New Honda Accord

Honda lovers and car enthusiasts in Seychelles will now have something new and exciting to talk about again.  This is because on Monday 11th February 2008 Honda announced the launch of its 8th generation Accord which will make its debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

Aimed squarely at challenging established premium contenders in the ‘Compact Executive Cars segment’, Honda’s all-new Accord Saloon offers sporty styling, greater refinement and a unique package of safety systems, together with excellent dynamic capabilities and strong environmental credentials.

Significantly longer, wider and more spacious than the current Accord, the styling adopts a more emotional, sporty motif.  The ‘sharp-edged’ design, with pronounced muscular wheel arches that emphasize the car’s wider track, gives the new Accord a distinctive, strong stance with a solid, planted feel.  The distinctive nose and more flowing lines deliver a tauter and more athletic shape.

Mr. Anthony Payet, General Manager for EHW, the authorized Honda dealer in Seychelles has announced that the new Accord is already available for order.  “For our market, the new Accord comes in 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol engine with a choice of 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission”, declared Mr. Payet.  “In Seychelles, the Accord has always been regarded as one of the best executive cars and with the initial response that EHW has received so far from local Honda advocates and potential customers, the all-new Accord is expected to maintain this perception”, added Mr. Payet.

EHW has indicated that it will be concentrating its marketing efforts on key segments of the passenger car market such as high profile government officials and business executives, hotels and ground handling operators, embassies and consulates, car hire and taxi operators and previous or current Accord owners.

The all-new Accord will offer:

An advanced 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine with some of the lowest emission in its segment
Standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed automatic transmission
The manual model features a ‘Shift Indicator Light’ or SIL which appears in the center of the rev counter. ‘UP’ or ‘DOWN’ are displayed to advise the driver of the optimum point (in terms of best fuel economy) at which to change gear; Honda tests have demonstrated fuel savings of as much as 5 per cent simply by following these commands.
The 5-speed automatic transmission using the steering wheel paddles in ‘S’ mode provides a sequential shift mode, allowing manual shifting and gear hold.
Greater agility and secure handling due to its new Speed Sensitive and Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS)
A comprehensive and outstanding safety package comprising of dual stage front airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA); which is designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden manoeuvres
Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure that provides significantly enhanced passenger protection in a variety of real-world crash conditions.
A premium interior with carefully selected materials and an outstanding fit and finish
Apart from a ‘sporty feel’ cockpit, stylish and highly supportive front seats, intelligent storage space, a sporty 3-spoke steering wheel that holds a complete suite of controls – including audio, cruise control and mobile telephone control, new features includes:
‘Floating’ backlit instruments
An LCD multi-information display contained within the center of the speedometer face that shows a variety of information and is controlled with controls positioned on the steering wheel
A service reminder that presents the driver with either the distance or days remaining to a required service, with an enlarged warning symbol appearing when the due date is imminent.

Meanwhile, Mr. Payet also confirmed that the Company has recently acquired an automobile Garage and Service Centre (Autotech (Pty) Ltd) at the Providence Industrial Estate.  “The development of the service centre is very much in line with our 5-year strategic plan for Honda in Seychelles” he said.

Apart from improving EHW’s pre and after-sales customer service and corporate image, the new service centre which is expected to become fully operational by 1st March 2008, will be used to service and support Honda, BMW, Chevrolet and any other brand of vehicles.
