The current drug epidemic in Seychelles is slowly moving to another uglier dimension: that of human trafficking. In some suburbs of Mahé, during the evenings after dark, a number of young men and women gather. These gathering are for one purpose the obtaining of money for the purchase of drugs.
This is done through prostitution. Girls sell themselves to obtain the money to buy drugs either for themselves or for their boyfriends. Having been introduced to drugs by their so-called boyfriends the girls have to sell themselves to support their habits.
One of the main contributors to the problem is the lack of proper supervision of the children by some parents.
