The Seychelles National People Progressive Front (SNPPF)

James Michel and Wavel Ramkalawan

Seychelles is expected to see the formation of a new political party before the end of 2008. It is now believed that the recent meetings between President James Michel and Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan have developed into more than just the Head of the Executive meeting with the Leader of the Opposition. The rumours on the streets of Victoria are that the two will come together for the formation of what they believe will be the mightiest political force ever seen in this country, the SNPPF. Michel is tired of waiting for the leadership of his party and Wavel who is expected to be deposed any time soon by Ferrari has decided to come together with Michel to save their political juicy meat, also known as beef steak fried in Turkey oil. Wavel likes his steak well done, Rs28, 000 worth of it and his new found buddy Michel likes his super-well-done, Rs38, 000 worth.

Michel will head the new party (SNPPF) with Wavel as his deputy. They will contest the next presidential election with Wavel as running-mate with the promise that Michel will hand over power to him after two years. Smart move from our Wavy he finally gets to have more gravy after all.

Wavel was overheard whispering in Michel’s ear two Saturdays ago at St. Louis that they must adopt the green melon as their official symbol. “Why melon?” Michel enquired. “Well” replied Ramkalawan “it is just like us two, green on the outside but red on the inside, truly SPUP.”  Michel looked chuffed with the proposition. The only little problem with that plan is that Danny Boy and Granddad, who by sheer coincidence is the Godfather of all three of them, Danny, Michel and Wavel and their daddy before them, have got his own wicked little plan for them all. He wants Danny Boy to be “Presidente” because D Boy has always remained loyal and always say yes to the most difficult of favours. Danny, he said, will prolong his legacy long after his departure for Down Under, Australia, where he has a big mansion, lots of sheep and a mango farm according to Regar. This is the grand plan.

However, their biggest worry for all of them Godfather included, is the refurbishment of the Blue Building at Mont Fleuri and this little blue paper called Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly, which they have been trying hard to close down, unsuccessfully, twice last year. They have resorted to buying every single copy from the shops all over Mahe and are using it, especially in high places to light up the Bar-B-Q grills. “These guys, Volcere and co, are opening the eyes of the people with that paper. We have to put a stop to it within the next four years, before the next election. They might have succeeded in making the blind see and the deaf hear. This will be bad news for us!” Michel was overhead whispering to himself.
