Another cold-blooded shooting by the Police - the second in less than three weeks

JAMAL SALIF, 19 years old from Beoliere, was shot by Dave Aglae (police officer) at Les Mammelles two weeks ago, on Thursday 10th April at around 8.00 pm. Jamal dismissed allegations from SBC TV that he had attacked police officers with a machete as pure rubbish and a fabricated story by the police or SBC for that matter.

According to Jamal he had called his girlfriend using a mobile phone and was sitting on a rock waiting for her to show up when he was confronted by three individuals in plain clothes. The three men never identified themselves and never said a word. They pounced on him. Jamal said that he managed to free himself and as he was trying to get away from them, he heard a gun shot. He was shot from the back by a bullet in his right thigh and fell to the ground. The bullet went through his thigh from the back and come out at the front. Whilst he was laying there on the ground the police officers trample all over him to aggravate further the pain in his leg.

This newspaper visited the scene of the incident and spoke to eye witnesses. They confirmed Jamal's version of event. The SBC TV went nowhere. They took the police's version as gospel truth; hardly credible we would think, but not SBC. At the time of going to press Jamal was still recovering from his injuries at great costs to the taxpayers at the Victoria Hospital. This is another incident where a police officer needlessly made use of a firearm in public and in the process wasted more valuable resources. Jamal Salif did not deny that the police was looking for him.
