PRESIDENT Michel's declaration of war against drugs is one that is totally supported by most in the country, especially this publication. Unfortunately the President efforts have failed thus far in having an impact on the amount of drugs that is coming into the country and its consequences on the local population.
This is because the strategy and policies being implemented to deal with this problem is totally ineffective and a waste of time!! The local police force has limited resources available to them to deal with the drug epidemic in the country and it is being misused.
The reality is that certain individuals involved in fighting the war against drugs on behalf of President Michel are themselves looking for an opportunity to 'make a mint'. Drugs confiscated during raids more often than not finds its way back on the streets in the hands of pushers, drug dealers and drug traffickers.
It would make a lot of sense if we were to scrutinize this situation intelligently with an open mind, fear through advertisement on TV should not be the only weapon of choice. It is having very little impact on abusers, if anything it has turned into farcical sketches and people loath it for comic relief and a laugh. And attempts at extracting political mileage out of the misery of others must be abandoned. The main forms of narcotics on our streets currently are cannabis, cannabis resin (hashish) and heroin. These are the three major beasts we are having to deal with on a daily basis; they can be viewed as a rat, a dog and a lion.
Now Mr. President, say you were being attacked by all three beasts at the same time. And you had a gun in your hand Mr. President, with only one single bullet available to you. Which animal will you focus your attention on and aim your gun at Mr. President? You tell me!!!!! Of course it would make much more sense to gun down the lion, Mr. President, because the lion possesses the force with which to tear you down and eliminate you Sir, in one go.
Now, can anyone tell me why is it that the rat and the dog is receiving much more or the same level of attention than the destructive lion?
This is a question that only the President and his advisors or Commissioner Waye-Hive can answer, or can they? The heroin pandemic currently gripping this country will snuff the life out of this small nation if it is not brought under control. Soon, and we mean soon, all and every single one of us will fall victim in one way or another to the viciousness of heroin addiction. The risk of being burgled or attacked by individuals looking to get their next 'fix' is growing by the day; no one is safe, not even in your own home.
There is no hiding or running from heroin addiction - wherever you are it will come and get you. This is the honest truth and you better believe it Mr. President.
We are running out of time Mr. President. It is the moment in time to rally the troop; you and your small army of police officers, who lacks sophistication, cannot deal with this matter on your own, it is above you - you need all of us to win, on that one trust us!
Now, what is preventing you Mr. President from picking our brains. We are here at your service, we love this country just like you do. We would hate to see its destruction just because humility is not a virtue SPPF possesses.
The methods used in the past and currently in the war against drugs have failed. We need to be realistic about this situation; a new approach is what we need. Heroin like a bad economy touches everyone in the country. You, Mr. President, the Ministers and the MNAs cannot give yourselves a huge pay rise to fend the effect of this drug.
President Michel must heed our warning if he is to save this country from the grip of heroin addiction and not be defeated in this war against our greatest enemy!!!
“Together we will triumph, divided we will fall”. LEST YOU FORGET SIR!
