According to the latest figures there are in excess of five hundred expatriates working for the Government and for state owned companies. Since the dismissal has started, to date not one expatriate employee has been laid off from government or state owned companies. SPPF is a political party, which prides itself on having “A heart for every Seychellois”. If only they knew the meaning of these words. Talk about paying lip service to a cause!
It is not good when people loses their jobs be it Seychellois or expatriates, but large scale redundancies remains a reality if there is a need to down size the public sector. The locals should take priority over the expatriates when it comes to keeping their employment. State owned companies must also play a role in keeping Seychellois in employment. SMB, IDC, SEPEC, Land Marine and others must look at the possibility of laying off the army of expatriates working within their organisations to make way for Seychellois capable of taking over these positions.
The laying off of expatriate workers must be done in a way that would least disrupt their way of life. They should be accorded full compensation and benefits due to them and with the opportunity to be employed in the private sector if they can find work until the end of their permitted stay in
These are just a few of the expatriates employed by government or state-owned enterprises
