ALARMING HEALTH ISSUES CHALLENGING THE YOUTH OF TODAY

Youth Workshop: “Youth, let’s make a Difference!”

In this day and age of globalisation, the youth of Seychelles are facing greater challenges and obstacles than ever before. The Grand Anse Mahé District Youth Committee being aware of these issues organised a youth workshop entitled “Youth, let’s make a Difference!” on Saturday 30th of August at the La Misere Hall. The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness on the dangers of the different alarming health issues that are affecting the youth, such as AIDS, Drugs and Alcohol. 

The workshop was facilitated by the various youth committees in the Grand Anse Mahé district in collaboration with DAC, CDCU, Church representative, the district health nurse, NCC and with the following local Sponsors: Le Meridien Barbarons Hotel, Barbarons Bakery, Mrs Nourrice, Mr. Ernst Pindur (Consular of Seychelles in the Czech Republic), Mr Michael A. Bloss, and Mr Davis Landry. The guest speakers and topics covered were: Mr Jeremy Sinon (Relationship), Mrs Furneau (S.T.D’s), Mrs Bacco (Teenage Pregnancy), Mr Benjamin Vel (Drugs and Alcohol) and NCC representative (Abuse and Peer Pressure).

The aim of this workshop was not only to sensitise the youth in the Grand Anse Mahé district but also others in regional district. Therefore 2 teenagers from the following regional districts were invited: Anse Boileau, Baie Lazare, Takamaka and Port Glaud. The 30 participants from 14 to 17 years old each received a certificate of participation.
