President Michel said loud and clear for everyone to hear, it even went out on SBC television. It was recorded live at Roche Caiman during the meet with the people exercise conducted by Michel on inheriting the presidency from Mr. Rene in the early half of 2004, “ I will never caused the Seychelles Rupee to be devalued”, he said. Mr. Michel made this statement with the full knowledge that he was going to do just that – devaluation of the local currency – the population is now suffering as a direct consequence of his actions.
President Michel stated publicly again, captured by SBC cameras after visiting the pontiff , without blinking even once that “Seychelles would not take any more large loans”. Contrary to this promise made to his people, President Michel has gone on to take what could be termed the biggest and most expensive loans ever some at 9.2% interest.
The President also promised that he would not put up utility bills - electricity and water. He has just broken this promise with electricity and water bills costing double to what it was previously.
So far we have heard nothing from the President in justification of all these broken promises.
