Letters to the Editor

Dear editor,

I refer to last week’s article in Regar on the re-opening of the Libyan diplomatic mission in Victoria. I would have sent the letter to that paper, but since it hardly gives any right of reply, I hope you will print this.

It is indeed strange for a local paper to have a whole article tell its readers of Libya’s policy vis-à-vis the Mediterranean. What about Libya’s plans for Seychelles and elsewhere in our region.

The embassy, formerly at Mont Fleuri, which Regar did not state, closed in the 1990s, not a few years ago. Presumably Regar, whose publisher is Jean-Francois Ferrari, Mont Fleuri MNA, does not want to write about how the Mont Fleuri site, owned by Mr. Philippe Jumeau which was compulsorily acquired by his father, the great Dr Maxime, then Lands Minister in the SPPF Government.

Following the acquisition, Ferrari said that it was something he’d rather not talk about. That was around the time that Jean-Francois Ferrari, who had just returned from university studies in France - his colleagues such as Joe Samy were sent to Algeria - and pioneered the NYS. Later did he realize that his younger brother was to become a victim of the system and be compelled to escape from this form of enslavement North Korean-style and go into exile.

I’ve heard that he is one of the few people at Arpent Vert to enjoy a cup of tea at midday. In case Ferrari and others like him believe Seychellois have short memories, I would like to point out that his will be refreshed from time to time, at opportune times.
