Will we see Miss World, SBC?

Last Friday, SBC-TV aired the Miss Seychelles Islands Beauty Pageant. Clearly the majority of viewers made it a must to stay home and watch, especially since this year the event was better organised and the girls, on average, not only prettier but also arguably more intelligent than for previous contests. Congratulations to the organisers.

We hope that when our new beauty queen Miss Elena Angione goes to South Africa for the Miss World pageant, SBC, which is run by state funds, will be able to show us that too.

After all, as this paper pointed out two weeks ago, Government forked out over $ 6 million each time in 1997 and 1998, when we hosted the Miss World pageant. Surely TV rights for something most Seychellois will enjoy watching - in most cases whole families, will be peanuts, to what we were prepared to pay in the past.

And we must not underestimate our own contestant. Who knows she might make the grade. If this happens, where will we be?
