Seychelles Envoy Reports for Duty in Korea

Philippe Le Gall, ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles, received yesterday his appointment from President Lee Myung-bak at the presidential office. He was designated Seychelles ambassador to Korea, and will also handle his country`s diplomacy with China.

Le Gall was named Seychelles envoy to Beijing in April last year and has been visiting countries in Asia, including Korea, Japan and Thailand, to promote the archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean.

When Korea made its bid to host the 2012 Yeosu World Expo last year, his support helped the Korean government win the backing of nations in southern Africa.

With its beautiful landscape and good weather, Seychelles has few equals when it comes to breathtaking natural beauty. The country is a favored tourist destination among the European wealthy and is a member of the Southern African Development Community.

Seychelles is also unique given its distinctive geography between Asia and Africa. The nation has also engaged in trade with Korea through Jeong Dong-chang, who was appointed honorary consul in 2006. In February, a marathon and music concert were held in the nation.

Le Gall said, “Seychelles will remain a favorite tourist attraction for anyone who has experienced its beautiful nature. And I also hope many Koreans pay attention to my nation as a bridgehead for entering Africa.”
