Albert René: Yardstick for Democracy!!

Sir, If I remember correctly, not too long ago the SPPF MNA’s were using examples from well-established democracies to justify their actions in the Assembly on the Media motion

I wonder what they must have felt when Mr Albert Rene stated ‘if there was no democracy no one from the opposition will be able to walk the streets’. What a sad statement? No wonder we are in such a state if our ex-president thinks this way!

Albert Rene, is now 71 years old, he should be relaxing and enjoying his retirement because lately whenever he opens his mouth he shows what a sad, bitter and egocentric old man he really is.

Why, is he sad and bitter???

Usually, all ex-Presidents from these well-known democracies have well respected Foundations whose aim is to make this world a better place through various activities. They also spend quality time writing their memoirs.

Where is Albert Rene’s Foundation?

Nearly all major organisations or institutions he founded, such as the NYS, SMB, IDC etc, have either disappeared or have been complete failures!

The moral state of this nation is in such a state due to his regime and actions. No youth can really look up to Albert Rene as a role model neither morally nor as a father figure.

The man cannot be humble. At his age he should be spreading peace and tolerance, instead whenever he opens his mouth he divides this nation further just like he did on 5th June 1977.

He is not revered in his own country as the ‘Great Leader Kim Il Sung’ of North Korea, Fidel Castro of Cuba and Lenin of Russia.

To tell the truth, I have more respect for Fidel Castro than for our own Albert Rene. Why I hear you ask? Fidel Castro is a man of principle and most probably will die for his beliefs.

Fidel Castro whenever he is sick is treated in his own Cuban hospital in Havana. Our own Rene shuns our local hospital, the health service of his own creation!

It has never been reported that Fidel Castro has any property outside of Cuba. Our dear Rene on the contrary, as a confirmed socialist, spends long holidays in a privately owned ranch in capitalistic Australia.

I was left feeling sad and sorry for him after watching him on his birthday. Albert Rene will die without any real legacy because of his arrogance, bitterness, self-centredness and violent nature. Would it not have been nice if he did apologise for all the mistakes and wrongdoing he has done this country in the past? Well, then again that is not him. I can only feel pity for the man.

The Poison  Pen

Calling on Samia Monsoon!

Sir, I was wondering if you could help me. I am searching for my childhood pen pal, Samia Monsoon from Mahe. I live in Scotland and we were pen pals for many years and unfortunately lost touch a few years ago. Do you know how I could find her as I’m sure she would be happy to receive a letter from me and I would like to get back in touch with her.

Thanks for any help you may give,

Caroline Cooper

L’ille Longue the Gorée of the Seychelles

Sir, I just wanted to say what an interesting article I’ve just read about l’ile Long. I for one have always wondered about our history. Which African countries did the slaves come from and that’s something I’m planning to do by the way. Although I wouldn’t know where to start, the church, the government, the museums, I really don’t have a clue. However, reading your article definitely helped and I agree with you that more research should be done. Regarding the quote of Francois Mitterrand, let’s hope that it’s not too late and we haven’t lost our identity.

Thank you so much for updating me.
