PERCY AH-MANE IS A LIAR!
In this week’s “Independent” Percy claims to have personally seen Ralph Volcere at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel and Casino in the early hours of Monday morning in the company of two skimpily dressed red devils. Percy claims that our Ralph had exclaimed “over my dead body” over claims that Roger Mancienne is to take over as Editor of Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly. Percy concluded that Ralph is a “watcher and not a player” since he had not lost a single cent in the casino that evening. What Percy did not know at the time he wrote the “Rumour Mill” is that Ralph is currently overseas and had been for some time now. Therefore, not only is what Percy said not true but it has become apparent that Percy Ah-Mane has an unhealthy and worrying obsession with Ralph Volcere. Someone even remarked that Percy is literally after Volcere’s butt since every week he would accord Ralph the privilege of being the subject of two or three articles in the Independent in addition to his graphic cartoon. Since Percy has been caught with his hands literally in the cookie jar one wonders what he has up his sleeves next for Ralph Volcere. The issue is anyone’s guest!
IMF Concur with Weekly Article!
This week the IMF practically endorsed what Weekly published a few weeks back in an article entitled “Price Control- Draconian and Anachronistic!” The Head of the IMF delegation currently in Seychelles bluntly told President Michel that he has to do away with the price control regulations permanently. The price control is an SPPF invention and is credited with single-handedly killing the entrepreneurial spirit of the Seychellois businessmen. The IMF delegation also stressed the importance of the continuance of the privatization programme. Although the government announced a drastic departure and change from the economic failures of the Rene led government on the ascendance of President Michel, progress has been slow as the government has quickly run out of steam. The Michel’s government is now dragging its feet on economic reforms as if, like a bride who is about to get married, it is getting “cold feet.” One expects that after being admonished by the IMF delegation on the slow pace of economic progress President Michel will launch the final impetus to see us through to the finishing line once and for all!
TAXI ASSOCIATION FIGHTS EVICTION ATTEMPT
The Taxi Association is vigorously defending a challenge by the Roman Catholic Church to have them evicted from their office at Ste Claire Building because they have refused to pay the 100% increase in rent. The Association, which is one of the most powerful in Seychelles at the moment, with over 100 subscription paying members, has been occupying the office at Ste Claire since 1985. They have already won the first round of the legal battle when the Church assigned the premises to the International School without the knowledge of the Association. The International School then applied pressure on the Association to pay the rent due to them instead of the Roman Catholic Church. The Rent Board ruled in the Association’s favour when they argued that there is no Landlord/Tenant relationship between the Independent School and themselves and therefore they were not legally bound to pay any rent to the International School. After the ruling, the International School promptly gave the premises back to the Roman Catholic Church and they in turn swiftly raised their rent by 100%. The Taxi Association refused to pay and instructed lawyers to file a case before the Rent Board to ask the Board to fix a “reasonable rent” for the office. The Association is headed by Mr. Davidson Madeleine who many agree is doing a magnificent job for no pay.
