LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Source of inspiration to us all

Sir, It is often said that inspiration for courage or bravery comes from sources one least expects and last week I drew inspiration from the courage of Mrs. Amesbury. Here was a woman who firmly believes in her right to a fair hearing and the length she is prepared to go to enforce that right. However for me it does not end with the court action. What struck me in last week’s article was the fact that both parties shared the front page but more importantly is the fact that the Constitution allows anyone whose right has been violated, to petition the court for a remedy. In fairness to the Chief Justice it must be said that he treated the case like any other and fixed it at the earliest possible time. What remains to be seen is whether the court will rise to the occasion and deliver the kind of judgement that will not only provide the judiciary with some badly needed credibility but will also give the Constitution the kiss of life.

Congratulations to Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly!!

Sir, I would like to thank the editor and staff of Weekly for producing a paper, the content of which can compete with many in the region. The idea of interviewing persons of interest to the local community is a great one and I was wondering whether Weekly intends to interview the President or the Leader of the Opposition in any of its future issues.

A Weekly Reader

Editorial Note: We will be formally inviting the President to participate in one of our interviews as well as the Leader of the Opposition. I wish to take this opportunity to thank my staff and members of the public for their continued support.
