ACTING SMART BUT NOT BEING CLEVER!

President Michel has gone through the University of Life – In his sixty-one years we take it that along the way President Michel must have accumulated the knowledge, wisdom and experience which makes him today the President of our Republic. Mr Michel will have to start sooner rather than later to behave in the intelligent manner we all hope he is capable of doing. For the sake of this argument let us assume for the duration of this article at least that Seychelles never existed until the night of the 12th May, 2007; when the results of the May 10th – 12th National Assembly Election was proclaimed by his most highest Excellency the Electoral Commissioner.

Results known, it is time for the victorious and the defeated, whichever way one looks at this scenario to make their views known to the Nation. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan was magnanimous in defeat or perhaps victory all things considered. He has the machinations of the system to deal with. He was ambushed and made to participate in an election at a moments notice designed to bring the country back to the good old days, one party era. When murder, AK-47, disappearances and much more formed part of daily living. OK enough of that now….. Let us pretend for real this time that life in Seychelles did really start on the night of May 12th.

Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan had the privilege of addressing the Nation first, not just out of respect. But rather because the SPPF had to have the last word. They created our little diamonds islands so without them our world just stops going round, so they think……….

To cut a long story short. The Elected member for Anse Etoile speaking in his capacity as the Leader of the Seychelles National Party (SNP) and on behalf of the SNP/DP alliance proclaimed rightly that the “Seychellois want more unity”. “It is obvious that if we want to achieve anything for this country, we need to work together, and I believe we can work together, so tonight my call is for all of us to remain united.” Ramkalawan said. This from a man who in the past has been perceived as confrontational must be applauded and was good news to all with Seychelles interest at heart. At the end of Mr. Ramkalawan’s speech Vice-President Belmont, giving the devil his due, wanted to show appreciation, as he prepared to clap, he looked over to see if President Michel would lead the acclamation. It was not to be a night of statesmanship.

It was President Michel’s turn to address the Nation and he did not let anyone down. He was full on rhetoric the kind that has marked his presidency so far. If President Michel is intent on working in unity with all quarters for the betterment of Seychelles and for all Seychellois he must start now. “Actions speaks louder than words”, Mr. Michel. The ball is in your court and no-one else’s………….

‘INTERNAL AFFAIRS STAFF SUSPENDED OVER FAKE PASSPORT INCIDENT’

The above is the title of a small article which appeared in the Seychelles Nation of May 9th, 2007. The article is tiny in comparison to the subject matter it was treating. It made certain allegations but provided no details as to the person or (s) being referred to in the article. Le Nouveau Seychelles Weekly has conducted an in-depth investigation in this matter. Troukler can state convincingly that the whole story behind the issue of the “Seychelles passport to a person of Seychellois nationality by using the birth certificate of another person”, is known in its entirety. All the staff we managed to speak to so far have confirmed that the person suspended following the incident in which a false Seychelles passport had been issued is totally innocent. He is being made the “scapegoat” in protecting a bigger fish who is entirely guilty of the crime under the Passport Act. We are all hoping the wrong man does not get sent to prison………. Troukler will reveal all when the time is right!
