ELDERLY QUARTERS REHABILITATED
Two local service clubs known for their charitable work, the Soroptimist International Club of Victoria and the Round Table, have joined forces in rendering life more comfortable and pleasant for the elderly inhabitants of the Ste Elizabeth’s Convent in
This noble achievement, worth approximately SR I million, is the culmination of nearly two years work to rehabilitate the old people’s wing that was in dire need of rejuvenation. The project started as the Soroptimist’s 10th Anniversary Project, launched in 2004. Due to incremental costs, the Club decided to bring in other partners such as Round Table No 2 (who has co-sponsored the project), the Government of Seychelles who has donated SR 150,000 and Rapid Roofing SR 100,000 (in kind).
The two Clubs thought it fitting for the hand over to take place on the 8th March 2007 which is Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide each year in recognition “that peace & social progress require the participation and equality of women, and to acknowledge the active role of women in international peace and security”.
To show solidarity with the old ladies and children of the Convent, Soroptimist members would, that evening, dine with them in the new facilities, which include a new dining room, amongst others.
