FOOTBALL: Betsy keen on national team call up
English based Kevin Betsy is keen to join the national squad.
According to the national team coach Ralph Jean Louis, the Wycombe Wanderers striker has been in contact recently on numerous occasions and he has expressed his desire to represent his country at the upcoming Island Games on home soil in August. Coach Jean-Louis told Regar Sports that he would welcome the 30 year old Betsy as his experience would be a bonus to the squad when they battle for a good showing at the Games.
The national team trainer, who has been in the job for just over two months, says that currently he has about 25 regular players who are training twice a week.
‘Altogether I have looked at thirty nine players but I am at the moment stabilizing the squad,’ explained the national team coach. Jean-Louis noted though that he will be choosing players who are in-form and will not keep players who are injured in the squad as he plans to revolutionize the squad system.
The national squad has so far played six test matches against local sides and also against the Swaziland champions, Young Buffaloes. They also organized a training camp last month which helped to build team spirit.
They are planning a training camp in South Africa in May where they are hoping to play four test matches as they look for more tough tests to boost their preparation. There is also a possibility that Betsy may be part of the squad that travels to South Africa though coach Jean- Louis could not confirm. There are others such as Jones Joubert, Rick Bibi, Alpha Balde, Yelvanny Rose, Michel Joubert and Samuel Henriette who have just been called up as the trainer tries to find his best players.
Coach Jean-Louis stated that the door is always open for other players to make the squad based on performance. Jean-Louis said that overall he is very satisfied with the support he has received and the players’ attendance and commitment in training.
