IS MONT FLEURI SCHOOL REVOLUTIONARY OR IS THIS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER?

Credible information received by this paper suggests that the Mont Fleuri Secondary School has began experimenting with a novel education break-through whereby “streaming” has been abandoned in favour of putting all students together in the same class irrespective of their grades and academic performance. It is hoped that this would improve the grades of the academically challenged students.

This is in conformity with a school of thought who professed that “streaming” in schools is disruptive and destructive to the students who harbour an inferiority complex which in turn causes them to give up their academic studies. Research has shown that the streaming practice based on level of academic achievement and performance has been singularly responsible for inculcating an inferiority complex in students which they find hard to dispel and which adversely affects their grades and academic performance.

However, many parents have expressed dissatisfaction with this revolutionary teaching method and have taken the unusual and drastic steps of removing their children from that school altogether. The question many are asking is whether the Ministry of Education is aware of this practice at the Mont Fleuri School and whether they have endorsed it. Parents are also anxious to know whether this practice will be endorsed by other government’s schools as well.

Write to us and let us know your views about this practice. Do you think it is a good practice and should be encouraged in all schools or should we resort to the old tried and tested method of streaming which has served us well in the past. Your views are valuable to us; let us know what you think.
