FOREIGN EXCHANGE SHORTAGE MAY FRUSTRATE AVIATION SECURITY

The government has announced new security measures at Mahe International Airport to bring us in line with international regulations. But the country may not be able to fulfil this obligation because of the foreign exchange crisis. Already all airlines operating out of Seychelles, except Air Seychelles, do not accept Seychelles currency for payment of airfares.

The security measures, which come into force on March 1st, will limit the amount of liquid being allowed in hand luggage. And whatever is allowed will have to be packed in a clear plastic bag which must be shown to the security officers. The head of the airline association, Mrs Rosemary Hoareau, has said that airlines will initially provide the plastic bags but only for a month. After that it is up to the passengers, which means that the bags will be in short supply and the ladies may not be able to travel with their make-ups.
