THE NCC LAUNCHES THE “ICE” CAMPAIGN

The National Council for Children must be commended for their effort in promoting child safety and emergency awareness. This week we saw the launching of a campaign by the NCC to encourage children of all ages to store emergency telephone numbers in their mobile phones or to carry it around written on a card on their persons.

The idea is for children to store a telephone number or numbers along with the name of someone who should be contacted in an emergency under the acronym ICE, which stands for ‘In Case of Emergency’ into their mobile phone ‘Contact’. NCC is asking parents to decide carefully on who will be their children’s ICE partner – because the person might have to give consent for emergency medical treatment.

In addition, NCC is proposing that it would be wise for people to include a hard copy of these details in their purse, wallet or school bag, in the form of a clearly labelled contact card. The cards with the ICE logo can be collected at the NCC’S headquarters at Bel Eau and in schools around Mahe and the Inner Islands.

“The ICE cards could save your life, or put a loved one’s mind at rest. Let’s spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our mobile phones today!” a representative of NCC emphasised.
