MISS SEYCHELLES IN MAURITIUS
The newly crowned Miss Seychelles Islands 2007, on 2nd June, Solanna Domingue (19), visited Mauritius during the weekend of 16-17 June returning to Seychelles on Monday 18th June. Accompanied by her mum Marie-Ange, sister Nathalie and friend Trevor, Solanna stayed at ‘Le Beau Soleil, in Rose Hill.
Solanna is an employee of the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) in Seychelles. Speaking to the press in Mauritius about her being crowned Miss Seychelles, she declared that it was an extraordinary night, “I was expecting to be one of the two princesses but not the Queen, I will carry the Seychelles flag as a beauty Queen in a manner similar to how I presently carry the captaincy of the volley-ball under twenty National squad. My aim is to use my newly acquired status for the protection of children in need. I owe this success to my mum and my managers Susie and Carol two of the organisers of the Miss Seychelles Islands Pageant. They have encouraged me; advised me to be where I am now.”
Solanna is looking forward to her trip to Germany where she will receive expert grooming for her participation in the forthcoming Miss Intercontinental Competition, an international contest at par with the Miss World beauty pageant. The greatest satisfaction for Solanna from being Miss Seychelles is having the opportunity to represent her country, an opportunity few gets to have during a lifetime. Solanna is of the view that women from the Indian Ocean are talented and need to have more exposure on an international scale wider than what is presently on offer. The Islands of Indian Ocean must come together to exchange the richness which exists in our culture, sports and music - there can only be winners in such an exercise. Solanna commented.
According to Solanna as far as beauty pageants are concerned and being a beauty Queen or in any other context each and every woman is special and beautiful in her own way and must be appreciated for her uniqueness. We wish Solanna well in all her future undertakings we are confident her accomplishments will be far and wide. Seychelles wish Solanna and her family well!
During the one-party state beauty pageants were banned.
