Letters to the Editor

Create a real at-home atmosphere

Sir, Kindly allow me to commend the football authority for not charging the spectators at the Sudan/Seychelles match of a few weeks ago.

During the under 17 year old competition a few years back I wrote a letter in one of the newspapers suggesting that the Seychelles matches should be free of charge in order to fill the stadium up and create a real “at home” atmosphere.  Some of us will know how demoralising it is playing soccer in a full stadium of which only 10% are your supporters.

My suggestion fell on deaf ears.  But I am delighted that seven years later the suggestion has been taken on board and has actually been implemented.  I look forward to a repetition of this type of decision whenever Seychelles participate in an important at- home match, of course always subject to our affordability.

Teachers are not impressed!

Sir – How much of a bargain are we the teachers really getting? Most of the computers are outdated models, and have 512MB memory which cannot even run the new Windows Operating System. And most do not come with DVD-RW which is the norm today, let alone the new Windows Vista Operating System. What we need is not laptops but better working conditions, a decent salary and basic educational materials and tools with which to do our jobs effectively and efficiently. Less laptops and better working conditions please, Mr. President!

AFIF TO CLEAN UP HIS ACT

Mr. Editor – My whole family and most of my friends are totally dismayed in the way SBC TV is currently reporting on the National Assembly. Mr. Afif must get his act in order if the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation is to gain back respect from the viewers.

The SBC is not by all account giving balance coverage of the National Assembly. We know that certain members from the opposition camp are not being featured deliberately as a matter of policy. This is because the SPPF leaders have instructed such; they fear that too much exposure will help the opposition in future elections.

Mr. Afif must put the interest of the viewers before the political consideration of the party in government.

STATE SECURITY TO SPY ON GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

Sir, I was pleased to read from your newspaper last week that finally the activities of the ‘State Security’ are being challenged in this country. My friends and I are also equally impressed to see that President Michel has had the courage to throw them out of State House. This is by all account a small step in the right direction. Now the President must stop them from killing people, harassing and inventing lies on people. If they want to contribute positively to this country the ‘State Security’ spies must concentrate their efforts on watching on people who are abusing the system by stealing from it. They should start by grassing on their friends involved in the drugs trade, corruption and illegal dealings.

Thank you for the space, please do not print my name
