MARIE ANTOINETTE ROSE PLUNGES THE PEOPLE TO LOWER DEPTHS

Marie Antoinette Rose accuesed of slinging mud at political opponents.

Marie Antoinette Rose has been accused yet again of being guilty of gutter politics this week after she took the People to the bottom of the rubbish barrel with articles which delve in the private lives of people and which are spiced up with a good dose of lies to make the story more credible than it actually is. This is yet another attempt by the editor of The People at character assassinations aimed at people who are viewed as political threats to the SPPF. People like Regina Alcindor, Bernard Georges, Paul Chow, David Pierre, Jean Francois Ferari and recently Frank Elizabeth have not been spared the wrath and venom of Miss Rose.

The signs are clear that SPPF is losing the political debate on issues which affect the country and Seychellois daily. In order to divert attention from the economic crisis, high unemployment, spiraling inflation, poor public services especially at Victoria hospital, Rose has been ordered to launch personal attacks at the leaders in the opposition with a view to render them less credible politically and destabilize their state of mind. As a result of feeble fabrications and blatant lies published in the The People newspaper, the paper has faced more lawsuits than any other newspaper in Seychelles.

Rose who has yet again been nominated by the SPPF as a proportionally elected member of the National Assembly over more able and deserving candidates is known to be a “weak speaker” with limited political ability and her role in the Assembly has been primarily to act as journalist and report on the speeches and behaviour of the opposition MNAs. This has clearly not been effective as a political strategy and Rose decided to take the orders of her political masters quite literally when she embarked on an aggressive pursuit of opposition politicians with zeal and vengeance by eliciting private and personal information about them which she reports with glee in the people newspaper. What has surprised many though is the fact that Rose has infelicitously acquired the unhealthy habit of fabricating stories to embellish the limited amount of dirt she can muster on the opposition leaders and splash it out as major news item in The People. This approach has attracted much criticism and reproach from members of the public in general who abhor her pettiness, small mindedness and parsimoniousness. However, this has not deterred Rose as she forges ahead at break neck speed in her quest to disparage and insult all and asunder in her party rag.

As the National Assembly opened its doors recently all eyes have been fixed squarely on Rose to see if she will spit as much venom in parliament as she had in her newspaper. Surprisingly enough she did not utter a word but kept the opposition MNAs under close scrutiny and an intense gaze throughout the whole session of the National Assembly, choosing her next target carefully. After commenting on the dress sense of David Pierre and making a lame attack on Norbert Loizeau, she has launched a full scale attack, with all guns blazing, at Frank Elizabeth. This has puzzled many political observers as Mr. Elizabeth is yet to speak in the National Assembly as he had to leave unexpectedly last week to file an urgent case before the Court of Appeal after Mrs. Marie Ange Hoareau (Yes her again!) had issued a prohibited immigrant notice to a young woman deporting her from Seychelles. The same People newspaper in its last issue has also commented that Mr. Elizabeth, like many opposition politicians, learnt his political trade from the SPPF school of politics and they do not expect him to strongly challenge them in the Assembly. The attack therefore has come somewhat as a surprise and Mr. Elizabeth has already instructed lawyers to file a lawsuit against the Editor, Printer and owner of this paper for defamation of character and libel.
