Dear Sir
We definitely need to rope in all those who are in the opposition to fight for a united cause and that is unseating the SPPF in power. There is no doubt about that. The reason why Wavel is getting the heat is because he is playing in the hands of these guys!! His move to push the DP representative out of the assembly was a very foolish one. The worse thing you can do when you know their mentality of divide and rule. This move has disenchanted numerous supporters. The comedy of the assembly is what Wavel is getting for handing the SPPF the olive branch. He should know better. Whether one wants to try and be magnanimous and say, OK let’s help them out, these guys will never repent!! It is Mugabe style all the way - the common thread you see from dictators and let’s not forget who is still the boss! And Michel will be an unwavering loyal servant of the boss till death do they part!! By assisting them we are only prolonging their stay in power. What has he gained for the cause by this “rapprochment” apart from some personal gains?? He will still not be allowed to get us our “radio freedom” and SBC is still under their firm grip. No reforms have taken place since the recommendations of the Reilly report... This government is all about lip service, lies and constantly trying to fool people (and insulting our intelligence in the process). We are still without a chief justice since the beginning of this year and we all know that a guy like Philippe Boule, Bernardin Renaud and others can do a good job. But no, they will not accept someone who will uphold democracy right? We are already half way into the year and what have we achieved in the ‘Year of the Constitution’???
The selling of the Nationality (Seychellois) has only one purpose. To provide more dosh for the coffers of the SPPF to maintain them in power, allow them to finish the housing estates on Perseverance. If we fight on and work hard we will unseat these cowboys before long. We CANNOT adopt the “can’t beat them, join them” mentality. Our children and our country deserve better....
Wavel must see the benefit in unifying the opposition, forget about his own little selfish self and think more about the people who elected him in the first place – and to get this unity in the opposition back on track. The problem with the SNP now is that their credibility is waning! With every election, there are new emerging voters as well as old ones that have seen the same old guard over and over again. Do you see the next presidential elections with Wavel on the ballot again?? That will be the 4th or 5th time round! People would rather see a fresh face with new ideas on how to take things forward. A Sylvestre Radegonde for example would create a better buzz among the electorate than the same old face that has been there done that in the assembly but has always ended up on the losing side. This is why a Barack Obama gives people hope. Because this is what a democracy at work provides. We also need hope, but hope will not come with same old same old... eventually dirty money wins out. They pay you to maintain the status quo. I think you get my gist...!!!
I think Weekly is doing its fair share to expose the discredited SPPF as a government at every opportunity. Have you seen the editions of Regar since this year? Well, if they have not been paid to tone down, then the ‘pa les tonbe’ cause has had a dose of morphine!!
Keep up the good work.

Hi Mr. Editor
The last consignment of fuel was brought in a long time back before the new increment on the international market, why do they sell it to us at the higher price.
This is day light robbery from a government with a heart for every Seychellois.
Best regards

Dear Ralph
Did you catch the gist of Danny Faure’s statement in National Assembly last week?
He has announced that Seychelles will opt into an IMF plan to restructure debts of Seychelles with Paris Club. That means more devaluation ahead as much as 45%- 50%. This has been confirmed by my source in Central Bank/ Finance.
Tough times never seemed so close!
SNP has really lost their marbles. They have given SPPF 2/3 majority in National Assembly. DP must make a solid run. You need to highlight the need to take affairs of state and country seriously and not play “Kan kan” with people’s lives after taking a fat salary and meeting with SPPF at State House. That should do it.
If you need help on the campaign trial call me. I’ll be there. I was born in Mont Fleuri and would still be there if Rene did not acquire my family house to build flats for Mauritians and other expatriates working for government.
Best Regards
En Zwer
Dear Mr. Volcere,
We would like to bring to your attention that as from 1st July 2008 all the remands at the Montagne Posée prison will be going on a hunger strike if the following conditions are not met and our rights respected.
We are being remanded for over more than six months, which is against the Constitution and most of us our trial will start only next year.
We want better food from what we are having right now, at least a balance diet with vegetables included.
We want physical contact with our family during visiting period, because we are not convicted to have visit on phone and we cannot even kiss our children.
We are not getting any sun time. We spend 24 hours under fluorescent light and this is not good for our health.
We are forced to buy high price goods at the prison store and if we brought in goods, given to us by our family when we come from the court they confiscated it and do not give us back.
We want the abolishment of solitary confinement on remand because under article 19 (1) in the Seychelles Constitution we are still innocent, but we are being punished by prison wardens.
The sanitary facilities are not on an adequate and acceptable level even for a prison and most of the time we are affected by very bad smell, the sanitation is very poor. There is not enough water storage and this is a big problem for us and a big concern to all the inmates.
Our rights to freedom of choices and expression are being violated when we are not given access to media and the seizure of our newspaper such as Rising Sun, Regar, the People and especially the Weekly.
Our cigarettes are being confiscated only for the wardens to come and trade it back for our juices, biscuits and fruits which our family has paid very costly.
We are tired of this situation and we demand serious action be taken concerning us. If necessary we will also refuse to attend court and visits from our families until we are treated with respect as human beings.
We also want the judge to respect the Constitution of this country. On many occasion the lawyers made many reference and points out article from the Constitution for a person to receive bail but only to be rejected by the judge.
As we are celebrating our Constitution as the voice of our Nation the judge should show much respect to the Constitution and render their decision according to constitution of Seychelles.
Thank you for reading and publishing our letter and we hope now that the citizens of Seychelles know what is happening to other human beings at the Montagne Posée prison.
All remands at the Montagne Posée Prison
Editor’s note: This letter reached our office too late for publication before the 1st July, 2008. We publish this letter in the spirit of equality and the right to be heard even if one is a convicted criminal or not. In the case of the above persons they are still innocent until proven guilty; therefore all their rights under the Constitution must be maintained until such time that the court decides otherwise; something the director of prison said recently on SBC TV is being practiced at the Montagne Posse Prison.
