In the last 2-3 years, there have been many deaths from leptospirosis caused by rats. The Ministry of Health and the SPPF Government are not giving this problem the consideration that it deserves, nor are they doing much to source out the appropriate medicine to treat and cure contaminated people. There are in fact drugs which can cure leptospirosis although it is at a cost. Now that President James Michel has assigned the Environment portfolio to Joel Morgan, will he make a difference by mobilizing and employing personnel to ensure that all gutters, common areas and so forth are kept clean to try and eradicate the invasion of rats in our country? What about sensitizing people on TV on a daily basis; surely the government are taking enough money from us to cover such costs…? The big question though is what is being done to eradicate these pests? Are they waiting for a plague to wipe out the population before anything is done?
