PHOTO OF THE WEEK

The carof the Chief Justice with note from the Police NOT TO USE.

The above picture shows the car of the Chief Justice with a NOTICE NOT TO USE sticker splashed across its windscreen. It is not clear why it took so long for the police to issue the notice to the Chief Justice or whether they pounced with the full knowledge that the Chief Justice is not in the Country (yet again) and therefore he cannot challenge this notice by making a simple phone call to the Commissioner. The reason for the notice is apparently because of the tinted windows and windscreen on the Chief Justice’s car which is not permitted by law. Whilst the traffic police has been over zealous to enforce this particular law, ordinary citizens were particularly targeted rather that high level civil servants and government officials. This is why this particular notice on the Chief Justice’s car has caught the eye. The question many are now asking is whether the CJ will twist the arm of COMPOL upon his return to reinstate this particular privilege? Others still are asking whether the CJ has fallen out of favour with his friends in government. It remains to be seen whether the police will have the same courage to enforce the law in respect of the other cars with tinted windows driven by the rich and powerful around the streets of Victoria? Will the Commissioner of Police, for instance, ask the President to lead by example and subject him to this law as any other Seychellois? After all, no one is above the law and the President can easily avoid the embarrassment of this law simply by making use of his newly acquired Rolls Royce convertible!
