Troukler

The Saga of desperation among the top-brass

Last Sunday mid-morning, the Seychellois public was treated to a comedy of errors on SBC am radio.  Troukler listened to the talks given by Mr. Maurice Lousteau-Lalanne Chairman of the Seychelles Tourism Board followed by that of Dr. Rolph Payet. These interviews provided firm conclusion of the fact that in the new manner of doing things the left hand does not know, and does not want to know what the right hand is doing!  The President, Vice-President, “Jj Spirit” and everyone else under the SPPF umbrella talk about the positive benefits that tourism brings to our country and how they are mapping the future strategy to the industry wisely.  Suddenly the STB heavy weight is now saying that local youth are not being attracted into the industry i.e. “Being what they (SPPF) want them (Students) to be”, “Beyond 2000”, “Our children, our treasure, our future” etc. etc. is not going in the right direction!  Then to further complicate things Dr. Payet comes in to say that for setting-up a tertiary education programme in the Seychelles all available resources within the education sector have a very important role to play and must be engaged from the onset.  Troukler asks “Why didn’t the “For the Love of Seychelles” people in the Tourism industry know about this in the first place?  Where have they been sleeping for the last 20 years?”

The Education System is crippled

We are already through over ½ of 2007.  Nothing has changed in the Ministry of Education.  Yes there has been a PS change but will this solve the problems in the Ministry?  There are continuing shortages of teachers throughout many schools.  Students are continually complaining that the curriculum teaching objectives are not being met.  Other complaints are the lack of proper teaching materials and facilities.  The only way this will be resolved is for President Michel himself to take a tour around the Schools.  As usual he can pretend that he is not aware that things are not going well in our schools around the country – taking advantage of the television cameras for a good “shake hands and kiss” photo opportunity.  This followed by his comments that it was an appropriate moment for him to visit xyz district to find out for himself (forget his seven other jobs) what is going on.  Troukler says look at the Ministry of Health – President Michel personally took charge of things there a few years back and things have gotten really worse rather than better!!! We are all hoping that the election of the good doctor as the new Chairman of the Dental and Medical Association will have a positive spin on the situation in hospitals and clinics around the islands.

Intelvision’s Double Standards

The cable TV service company Intelvision has shown its true character.  The company is all out to make money without consideration to the average person in the street.  Its service and billing system are not in sync with the image Intelvision is projecting. When the service breaks down for days and weeks at a time and we are all left with little to view on our television sets, no corresponding grace is given with the bills.  Even if you have not received the service, Intelvision immediately disconnects you if you have not paid your renewal bill on time.  The pathetic reason they give is that there is nothing they can do about it!  How about employing people who know what needs to be done to keep customers happy, and provide a trouble-free service for a start?  Troukler think this should not be too difficult – but getting “Jj spirit” to move needs more than simple logic!

For Some “Sesel pou Seselwa” are more equal than others

With the continued short-age of building materials continuing in Seychelles, Troukler took a trip down to our local cement supplier at New Port.  And guess what?  Trucks belonging to well connected big fish do not need a Vehicle Testing Station certificate to operate.  These commercial vehicles although they have not passed the test are already operating with only the “ON TEST” vehicle number plates on display.  Another good reminder of who Seychelles belongs to is the sight of local Seychellois having to sit and queue for cement from as early as mid-night whilst other well-connected big fish trucks arrive in the mornings and go immediately to the head of the queue.  They are given preferential treatment for not only being big fish but for also flying the politically correct flag.
