Damandra Eulentin is the 26 year old Seychellois who was killed in the most horrific of circumstances on 6th March 2007 by people believed to be working for State House Security. At the time of his death, Damandra was the father of one minor child and had a brother of tender age. Damandra was a fisherman by profession and much loved in the community where he lived at Roche Caiman. Neighbours told this paper that “Damandra was the kind of man who would not hurt a fly.” At a time when President Michel had called for unity and tolerance the controversial State House Security continues to torture and kill at will. Apparently, Damandra had been brutally and savagely tortured immediately before his death. He was castrated and had a long piece of wood forced into his anus with the intention to cause the most excruciating pain and discomfort. The very people responsible for this heinous and inhumane act are now walking freely amongst us within our community. This is a very frightening thought indeed. The question many are now asking is how many more innocent Seychellois has to die before President Michel actually do something about it?
Damandra Eulentin was taken in the still of the night one evening from Roche Caiman by people suspected to be from the notorious State Security. According to his dad featured in the photograph, Damandra was taken only two days after the above picture was made. The next time someone spotted Damandra was by pure chance when his dead body was spotted at the bottom of the sea where he was left to be eaten by predators, in the Marine Park around Cerf and Ste Anne islands. His body had been weighed down by an engine block; fasten with strap around his neck. According to close relatives the police investigation into the murder of Damandra is now closed and his file has been marked “Unsolved Murder” The family has been informed by the Commissioner of Police that no one is being charged for the murder of yet another innocent man.
The Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) within the Police Force did not find it necessary to bring in forensic experts from abroad to help trace the origin of the engine and other materials used in containing Damandra’s body to the bottom of the sea. In the past this government has not hesitated in hiring experts from overseas to help investigate similar cases. However, Damandra’s family was not deemed worthy of such treatment; lacking the necessary connections and influence within government. It is a clear demonstration that the life of the common man on the streets here in the land of “Lanmour pou tou Seselwa” is worth far less than that of the big wigs in government.
According to his dad, Damandra was killed in the most brutal way possible. His body was mutilated almost beyond recognition. "It was the hardest thing my family have ever had to deal with", his dad told this newspaper. Today, Damandra is buried six feet under the ground in the Mont Fleuri Cemetery. His young family is without a father; his child will grow up not knowing the true love and affection of a father and his partner is without her boyfriend; his mum and dad are without their son. How much pain can a nation endure before they take to the streets of our small capital, Victoria, to demand justice? President Michel must stop these killers from killing any more of our brothers and sisters if he is really the President of all Seychellois as he claims!
