During a presentation ceremony held at its head office on the 2nd of July 2007, Cable & Wireless Seychelles announced that it has introduced an electronic top up service for Cable prepaid customers – a first of its kind for Seychelles.
Introduced under the name of eTopUp, the service allows customers to top up their mobile prepaid service electronically without the need to use scratch card vouchers. A similar type of service has already been successfully implemented and accepted by customers across other Cable & Wireless businesses globally.
The benefits of eTopUp are significant, especially for the customer and for the general public. Cable Prepaid customers will now have more flexibility to better manage their prepaid accounts as the service allows them to top up with as little as SR10 up to a maximum of SR1000 per transaction. For example, a customer can now choose to top up with SR11 instead of buying a voucher of a higher denomination. Alternatively, a customer may choose to top up with a much higher amount than is currently available in voucher form. Unlike vouchers, eTopUp does not utilise any physical stock and therefore dealers should be able to ensure prepaid airtime availability at all times. The customer can also enjoy the ease of service without the hassle of scratching vouchers and entering voucher ID numbers. As long as the customer knows which mobile they wish to top up, they don’t even need to have the actual mobile phone physically with them – the top up is done automatically.
The eTopUp service, being a cardless way to credit prepaid accounts, will also benefit the whole Seychelles Community. It will have a positive impact on the environment as it will reduce the use of scratch card vouchers, which after each use get thrown away and can often be found on the ground as litter. Cable & Wireless being a long standing partner in conservation and protection of the environment is, through the introduction of the eTopUp service, honouring its commitment towards such a cause. “eTopUp has been hugely successful in other markets worldwide and without a doubt, I am sure it will have the same impact in
With eTopUp, Cable & Wireless , Cable Prepaid accounts can be credited through a special eTopUp Point of Sale Terminal (POS), through the Internet or through mobile phones. The service is currently available at all Cable & Wireless Customer Service Centres on the three main island and at various retail shops where a eTopUp will soon be advertised. Although Cable Prepaid customers now have the choice of topping their accounts using eTopUp or scratch card vouchers, it is Cable & Wireless’ intention to move completely away from vouchers and offer only eTopUp in the future. This has been trend around the world as similar electronic top up system have proved to be far more beneficial to all concerned.
The eTopUp system that Cable & Wireless has introduced has been installed and will be technically supported by Tayana Software Solution, a company based in
