Can Patrick Herminie sleep at night??

This is the question god-fearing individuals from all religious backgrounds in Seychelles want us to put to the Honourable Speaker.

Patrick Herminie is a medical doctor by profession they say, a noble vocation indeed. He was trained in Czechoslovakia when it was a communist state in the Soviet Empire. There, the political philosophy was based on the Marxist/ Leninist  teachings – like all the former Eastern block countries. Since he is a product of  a Communist education  system, Herminie is believed to have a Communist outlook.

Patrick Herminie was made Speaker of the new National Assembly elected last May. It did not take long for his dislike of free speech to manifest itself. In only the second sitting of the National Assembly, after barely having taken the oath of office Herminie went straight for the opposition’s jugular. This week, for example, he kicked Hon. Bernard Georges out of the Assembly for calling him a “dictator” because the Speaker refuses to accept an argument of law from someone who has seasoned legal experience and qualification. Herminie also told Georges, in no uncertain terms, that he – Georges, would only be allowed back in the Assembly next week if he apologises.

The People newspaper (organ of the majority SPPF) published an article in its issue last week, in what is considered to be a half-hearted and feeble defence of  the Speaker’s  arrogant behaviour. Deep in your soul, you lot at The People newspaper, you know that the comrade has already overstepped the mark in stifling debate – depriving the people’s representatives on the opposition bench of its legitimate voice. You need to pull him to one side have a word in his ear before it is too late, because the population might just wake up one morning and decide to do something about it and you will only have yourself to blame!

Herminie, Marie-Antoinette Rose, Marie-Louise Potter and others are no fools. They know that they are following an evil train leading this country to ultimate disaster. However, they are prepared to flirt with it for personal short-term benefits. They do not care about democracy or justice. Voracity is at the core of this approach. It is greed at its most heinous in  a ‘dog-eat-dog’ environment, to borrow a quote from their rag (The People) last week. They will do everything necessary to conceal the evil deeds of their masters as long as they are “all-right jack”.

It is now becoming apparent that we are living in two Seychelles - One where everything is rosy and comfortable for some and another, for the majority, where it is a relentless struggle just to make ends meet, politically and literally too. This is the mindset that is quickly taking over, the way many see things in this country.  A  “As long as I am ok”, mentality. It is a dangerous state of affairs one which goes against godliness. It is an attitude, which embraces wickedness in all its destructive forms. Can these people sleep at night? one doesn’t think so. Do you?
