IGCSE RESULTS FOR INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

According to the Director of the Independent School, Mr. Zotique Pragassen, the students have once again managed to pleasantly surprise his establishment, with a 100% pass rate, 91.7% of all grades being credits or distinctions.

At Independent School there are three compulsory subjects: English as a Second Language, French (which students sit in S4), and Mathematics.  There are nine other optional subjects on offer: English as a First Language, English Literature, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Art and Design, and Computer Studies.

The minimum number of subject entries per student was eight, but most students sat for more than eight subjects.  There were altogether 455 subjects entries, a substantial rise from last year (410), meaning that more students opted for more than five optional subjects.

The total number of students who sat for the examinations was 48 compared to 46 in 2006.  Of these, 41 students obtained at least five credits or above (85.5%), compared to 37 in the preceding year (80.4%).  13 students scored at least 5 “A” or “A” grades.  Haajira Jumaye was the top student overall with 6 “A” grades and 4 “A” grades.  Laura Gayon came second with 5 “A” grades and 5 “A” grades.  The top student among the boys was Danny Marie with 6 “A” grades, and 3 “A” grades, he was also third overall.

Another point worth noting is that in 2nd Language English, Geography and French there have been a 100% of credits or distinctions.  93.8% of English Literature and 91.7% of Mathematics grades were credits or distinctions.

Most of the students have pursued all their studies at the Independent School, having joined at K1 level in 1995.

The table below shows the grades achieved per subject entry, and the subject-grade percentage overall.

DELF RESULTS FOR INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

40 Students were entered for DELF B1 and 4 for DELF A2

The highest score for the former (DELF B1) was achieved by Haajira Jumaye who once again came out tops with a score of 86%.  All students have passed the examinations.  The average score for the Independent School for DELF B1 was 69.7% and for DELF A2 was 73.5%.

This shows that the Independent School is maintaining its high academic standard. Mr. Pragassen wish to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers that have made this possible over the years.  “I also wish to congratulate all the students who sat for the examination, for their excellent results.  I hope that they continue to work hard in order to succeed in all their endeavours.” Mr. Pragassen said.
