What is wrong with the Registrar General’s  office?

People have complained to this newspaper that registering of title deeds, companies and other documents have now become a nightmare experience at the Registrar General’s Office.  One man who submitted his title deed for registration since August 2006 is yet to get it as  it finds its way through the cumbersome and complicated registration process. Things have began to spiral out of control after the departure of Mr. Gustave Dodin as Registrar, a few years back. Mr. Dodin is now the current ombudsman and is credited to have done a jolly good job as Registrar.

Documents which normally took two weeks to register are now taking months, causing many in the business community to become annoyed and frustrated as they wait for months on end to have their companies registered to obtain the necessary licenses to trade.

Mrs. Samia Govinden who was appointed Registrar after the departure of Mr. Gustave Dodin is now a Magistrate at the Anse Royale Court.  Mrs. Charlette is currently acting Registrar, and President. Michel is yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Mrs. Govinden.  What has become abundantly clear however, is the fact that someone with ability and skill needs to be appointed urgently as Registrar to put some order, competence and speed at this office.

It is hoped that since this matter has now been brought to the attention of President Michel he would act with haste and announce an official Registrar General  sooner rather than later.
