Never before seen pictures of political prisoners inside the Union Vale Prison in 1980
The month of November is particularly significant in the history of our country. Not only do we observe Armistice Day in honour of our valiant young men who gave their lives alongside millions of others during the Second World War, it is particularly politically significant also because it was the month that Rene ordered the mass arrest and detention of over 100 people. 100 people may sound insignificant in the context of the wider world, but for a population of just about 70,000 it represented a large percentage.
Below we reproduce photographs never before seen by the public of some of the detainees held at the Union Vale prison.
